Signs and Wonders Follow the Word
Deuteronomy 32:46-47. he said to them, "Take to heart all the words of my testimony against you today, so that you can use them in charging your children to be careful to obey all the words of this Torah. 47 For this is not a trivial matter for you; on the contrary, it is your life! Through it you will live long in the land you are crossing the Yarden to possess."
It amazes me, in fact it's puzzling that so many believers, those who are trying to live a biblical lifestyle that is pleasing to God attempt to do so without daily reading their bible. Many if not most will sporadically look in their word for a pithy statement when someone is sick or in trouble, or, when confronted with something they don't like or find something they perceive as offensive will find part of a scriptural verse as ammunition in an attempt to alter their situation which may or may not be biblical or even correct. There is always a great danger involved when partial scripture is quoted vice the entire verse or chapter. This is a recipe for taking God's word out of context or even voiding it through misinterpretation.
God's word is more than a thought for the day, a source of suggestion, a source for warnings, and inspirational thoughts. Moshe declared to Israel in verse 47 of Deuteronomy 32 that God's word is Life Itself! This is an epiphany from heaven to Israel, on the verge of entering into the Promise land after forty years of wondering in the desert. This is an epiphany for us today!
Forty years of punishment upon their parents because they did not trust in God. Forty years of wondering until an entire generation passed away because of their doubt and disbelief! Even the revered Moshe would not enter into the Promise Land because he had not shown proper reverence and obedience to God's word. The people who gathered together around Moshe knew those who had perished. It was their parents, their grandparents, and in many cases brothers and sisters. All had friends and family die in the desert because of their disobedience to God's word.
To prevent Truth decay God's word must be prevalent in you! In fact, God commands that His word be the center of your life, the Keystone, focus, and foundation of everything you say and do. This is the very reason God sent Messiah-to fulfill this command:
Jeremiah 31:33. "For this is the covenant I will make with the house of Isra'el after those days," says ADONAI: "I will put my Torah within them and write it on their hearts; I will be their God, and they will be my people.
This is the basis for my messages to you and should be the same for all those who lead congregations. I am not commissioned by God to be a story teller, to weave yarns and tell lore from days of old. I'm here to present the word of God, my droshes are centered on the word itself, any and all embellishments are done to:
1. Give God's word in a topical, relevant manner that reflects and responds to the times and season we live in.
2. Demonstrate God's power through His word and introduce the King!
Our Reverence and Fear of God is not just what we say but what we do. Many spend more time reading and studying the words of people vice reading, studying, and ingesting the Word of God. It reveals an unhealthy heart condition. That's how people become confused with religion. To disregard and dismiss God's word is to disregard and dismiss life itself! Eating and living God's word is the surest way to experience the supernatural presence of God Himself.
I often refer to the book of Acts, especially the early chapters that reveal supernatural event after supernatural event. Chapter one records the ascension of Yeshua to Heaven, Chapter 2 records the Shavuot immediately following Yeshua's death and resurrection 2,000 years ago when heaven invaded an upper room with 120 Jewish followers of Messiah who were filled with the Ruach HaKodesh, began speaking in tongues and three thousand Jewish people were saved that day! Chapter three records the healing of a crippled man since birth at Gate Beautiful of the Temple through Peter and John who were on their way to the Temple to pray at 3pm! This event resulted in 5,000 being saved that day followed by their subsequent arrest in Chapter four for sharing Yeshua and the biblical doctrine of resurrection in the Temple Courtyard. Here is where I want to dig in and come back to our principle.
Acts 4:5-13. The next day, the people's rulers, elders and Torah-teachers assembled in Yerushalayim, 6 along with 'Anan the cohen hagadol, Kayafa, Yochanan, Alexander and the other men from the family of the cohen hagadol. 7 They had the emissaries stand before them and asked, "By what power or in what name did you do this?" 8 Then Kefa, filled with the Ruach HaKodesh, said to them, "Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being examined today about a good deed done for a disabled person, if you want to know how he was restored to health, 10 then let it be known to you and to all the people of Isra'el that it is in the name of the Messiah, Yeshua from Natzeret, whom you had executed on a stake as a criminal but whom God has raised from the dead, that this man stands before you perfectly healed. 11 "This Yeshua is the stone rejected by you builders which has become the cornerstone. 12 There is salvation in no one else! For there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by whom we must be saved!" 13 When they saw how bold Kefa and Yochanan were, even though they were untrained 'am-ha'aretz, they were amazed; also they recognized them as having been with Yeshua.
Having spent the night in jail for the previous days healing episode, Peter and John are not frazzled, mad, angry at God for being arrested, nor flippant, arrogant, or prideful in their situation. When they are brought forth and questioned Kefa was filled with POWER OF GOD! Remember the words of Yeshua in
Acts 1:8. But you will receive power when the Ruach HaKodesh comes upon you; you will be my witnesses both in Yerushalayim and in all Y'hudah and Shomron, indeed to the ends of the earth!"
Kefa is filled with the Ruach, the Power of God which is "koach" in Hebrew: the strength, vigor, ability, force, fruit, might, and wealth of God! Before this esteemed group of Men (It would be similar to one of us being called to testify before the U.S. Congress) Kefa boldly begins witnessing Yeshua through the word of God! In verse 11 of Acts 4 Kefa is quoting:
Psalm 118:22. The very rock that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone!
Yeshua is our Rosh Peenah, our chief cornerstone on which all rests! In verse 7 they ask Kefa "By what power or in what name did you do this?" Again, remember last Shabbat-He is our Authority, Hodcha in Hebrew means "authority, beauty, glory, honor, majesty, splendor" and Power!!! Kefa then said in verse 12: "There is salvation in no one else! For there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by whom we must be saved!" Salvation in Hebrew (literally) is "Yeshua"!
Isaiah 49:6. he has said, "It is not enough that you are merely my servant to raise up the tribes of Ya'akov and restore the offspring of Isra'el. I will also make you a light to the nations, so my salvation can spread to the ends of the earth."
The point here is that Kefa, Peter is in the middle of the furnace of affliction, He is being tested, he is being refined through this arrest for sharing the "Good News". In great boldness He proclaims the word. This establishes biblical precedence. As affliction continues and there is even greater persecution look what occurs:
Acts 8:3-8. But Sha'ul set out to destroy the Messianic Community - entering house after house, he dragged off both men and women and handed them over to be put in prison. 4 However, those who were scattered announced the Good News of the Word wherever they went. 5 Now Philip went down to a city in Shomron and was proclaiming the Messiah to them; 6 and the crowds were paying close attention to what Philip said, as they heard and saw the miraculous signs he was doing. 7 For many people were having unclean spirits driven out of them, shrieking; also many paralytics and crippled persons were being healed; 8 so that there was great joy in that city.
Philip is speaking the word of God and the supernatural follows but all is under the cover of great persecution. As this was playing out, Peter and the others had already been seasoned and refined through the furnace of affliction (persecution). Back in Chapter 5 he had been detained and even punished for the Good News:
Acts 5:40-42. After summoning the emissaries and flogging them, they commanded them not to speak in the name of Yeshua , and let them go. 41 The emissaries left the Sanhedrin overjoyed at having been considered worthy of suffering disgrace on account of him. 42 And not for a single day, either in the Temple court or in private homes, did they stop teaching and proclaiming the Good News that Yeshua is the Messiah.
No matter what the situation was, how bad the persecution or danger, the Talmidim continued faithfully in the discharge of their heavenly duties- Proclaiming the word, the entire word! And signs and wonders followed the word! This is critical because we are entering into such a season as was experienced 2,000 years ago. It's the biblical pattern. Affliction, God's word followed by signs and wonders, the Supernatural, Revival. Let's review a vignette of biblical History. To release Israel from enslavement in Egypt God performed signs and wonders. After 40 years of wondering because of disobedience to God's word Israel enters into the Promise land through signs and wonders (walls of Jericho etc...) then we enter into the Period of Judges:
Judges 2:10-14. When that entire generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation arose that knew neither ADONAI nor the work he had done for Isra'el. 11 Then the people of Isra'el did what was evil from ADONAI's perspective and served the ba'alim. 12 They abandoned ADONAI, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, selected from the gods of the peoples around them, and worshipped them; this made ADONAI angry. 13 They abandoned ADONAI and served Ba'al and the 'ashtarot. 14 The anger of ADONAI blazed against Isra'el; and he handed them over to pillagers, who plundered them, and to their enemies around them; so that they could no longer resist their enemies.
There is the pattern! A judge or prophet is raised who speaks God's word and a warning to return to it followed by supernatural deliverance! It is the way it throughout scripture until Yeshua's return. The prophets came to warn Israel to return to God and His word....They themselves were sent to speak God's word!
Matthew 25:31-40. "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, accompanied by all the angels, he will sit on his glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be assembled before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates sheep from goats. 33 The `sheep' he will place at his right hand and the `goats' at his left. 34 "Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take your inheritance, the Kingdom prepared for you from the founding of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you made me your guest, 36 I needed clothes and you provided them, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.' 37 Then the people who have done what God wants will reply, `Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 When did we see you a stranger and make you our guest, or needing clothes and provide them? 39 When did we see you sick or in prison, and visit you?' 40 The King will say to them, `Yes! I tell you that whenever you did these things for one of the least important of these brothers of mine, you did them for me!'
The last affliction, the Great and Terrible Day of the Lord will be the greatest ever known yet we will also experience the greatest harvest, the greatest return to God ever experienced in Human History. The worse it is in the world the more that come into the Kingdom....Remember the blood red moons coming in 2014-2013 on Pesach and Sukkot:
Joel 2:31. The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and terrible Day of ADONAI."
What will we do? What we've been doing all along. Speaking and standing on God's word. We've faced opposition, oppression, hatred, and even persecution from the very beginning as a congregation and as a movement yet we have never relented. We've stay true to God's Word. The more we stand on His word and submit to God in humble obedience, the greater the signs and wonders that follow. We (Israel) were told the significance of His word before we entered into the promise land:
Deuteronomy 8:3. He humbled you, allowing you to become hungry, and then fed you with man, which neither you nor your ancestors had ever known, to make you understand that a person does not live on food alone but on everything that comes from the mouth of ADONAI.
Where I started in Deuteronomy 32-God's word is life itself! When Tempted by HaSatan and in the middle of great tribulation Yeshua quoted this:
Matthew 4:4. But he answered, "The Tanakh says, `Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of ADONAI'"
No matter what the government says, what political correctness says, what the ACLU says, what the United Nations says, what the E.U. says, what the Orthodox Union says, what the pope says, what denominations say, regardless of what laws are passed, if we're flogged and imprisoned for sharing the Good news we will not stop proclaiming God's word, God's message. You have to make a choice right now, you've got to make up your mind right now who you are going to serve. You can't make a decision when trouble hits, it will already be too late! We all seek God with our own expectations, experiences, and backgrounds. By seeking God through His word we establish His metric of exceptions vice our own, but we must leave behind our own agendas and lifestyles and conform to His. What will it be?
